Satellite-to-Mobile (STM) and GetHomeSafe
A quick guide on Satellite-to-Mobile and how it interactions with GetHomeSafe.
GetHomeSafe supports two Satellite-to-Mobile methods, depending on what connectivity is available.
Satellite-to-Mobile Data:
When supported, the GetHomeSafe app can use satellite-backed mobile data to operate normally while out of coverage.
To use satellite mobile data:
-
You must be with a provider who supports Satellite-to-Mobile
-
You must have an eligible or compatible mobile device
-
You must be on a plan that supports satellite connectivity
When these requirements are met, the app behaves as if it is in normal coverage for key events:
-
Live location sharing continues
-
Panic and man-down alerts work as usual, including via Bluetooth wearables
There is no additional configuration or training required. Users simply need version 4.27 or above of the GetHomeSafe app.
Please note that a small number of app functions, such as photo upload and viewing attached documents, do not work via satellite.
SMS fallback
If mobile data or Wi-Fi is not available, GetHomeSafe can fall back to SMS for key safety events. This provides important redundancy and a second communication path when data networks are unavailable.
