Mobile Data

If you have an eligible plan with your mobile provider, you can use mobile data in areas typically out of coverage through satellite. This means GetHomeSafe works exactly the same whether you're in coverage or out of it. Your location tracking, panic alerts, and check-ins all work normally—nothing to set up or configure.

Who can use this?
This is currently available for OneNZ customers in New Zealand with eligible plans and supported devices. We're working to add more providers throughout 2026 in New Zealand, Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom.

What do I need?

To use this feature, you'll need:

  • An eligible plan with a supported mobile provider

  • A compatible device

Check with your provider to see if your plan and device are eligible.

How does it work?

When you're in areas typically out of coverage, your device automatically connects to satellite to access mobile data. Just make sure you have a clear view of the sky and GetHomeSafe will work as normal.

If mobile data is unavailable in some areas, GetHomeSafe will offer SMS as an option to perform your GetHomeSafe actions. For more information, check out the SMS section at the beginning of this article.
