Troubleshooting - Poor Location Tracking & Accuracy
A Troubleshooting guide on reasons for poor location accuracy and how to improve it
Location accuracy can vary based on several factors, including your environment and your phone. In some situations—like being indoors, underground, or in areas with weak or no signal—your location may not be very accurate.
Here are some tips to help improve accuracy:
- Ensure Location Permissions are set to "Always Allow"
This ensures your location continues to update during an activity, even when the app is minimised or your phone is locked. - Check Battery Optimisation Settings
Battery settings can impact accuracy. The Regular default battery mode works for most cases, but if you need higher accuracy, consider switching to High Precision mode. For more help, see this article: Battery Optimisation - Switch Location Provider (Android only)
Android devices can use different methods to determine location:
Fused: This combines data from GPS, Wi-Fi, cellular networks, and various sensors (such as accelerometers and gyroscopes) for more accurate and reliable positioning.
GPS: This relies specifically on signals from satellites in the Global Positioning System.
