How to Check In and Extend Your GetHomeSafe Activity Using ZOLEO When Out of Coverage

Learn how to manage your GetHomeSafe activity using your ZOLEO device when you're out of mobile coverage. This guide explains how to check in, extend time, finish your activity, or trigger a panic alert.

Important Notes:

  • Sending messages via satellite transmission can take several minutes
  • Zoleo will send a notification once check-in has been received by our server.

 

Checking In and Extending Time via GetHomeSafe Mobile App (Out of Coverage)

Even when you're outside of mobile coverage, the GetHomeSafe mobile app can still be used to check in and manage your activity—as long as the activity was started in coverage:

  1. Open the GetHomeSafe App
    Launch the app on your device.

  2. Tap “Check-in”
    Select “Check-in” from the main activity screen.

  3. Wait for the "Check-in with Zoleo" option to appear, then select it 

  4. Send via ZOLEO
    Once selected, the ZOLEO app will open automatically and send the appropriate command to reply@gethomesafe.com via satellite.

  5. Receive Confirmation
    You will receive confirmation that your message has been sent successfully.

In the Zoleo app, check the status beneath your message:

  • Two arrows = Message in progress
  • Tick mark = Message successfully sent

Managing Your Activity When It Was Started Out-of-Coverage

If your activity was originally started out-of-coverage (via the ZOLEO device), you won’t be able to manage it directly in the GetHomeSafe app until a sync occurs in coverage. In this case, use the ZOLEO app to send manual commands:

  1. Open the ZOLEO App
    Go to the Chats section.

  2. Start or Open a Conversation
    Create a new message or continue an existing chat with: reply@gethomesafe.com

  3. Enter the Following Commands:

    • #extend: Extends timer by 60 minutes (only applicable to activities with a “countdown” timer) OR customise your extension by a specific time i.e. #extend360

    • #timecheck: Checks how much time is remaining.

    • #test: Confirms a satellite connection is active.

    • #ok: Sends an ‘I am OK’ check in (resets recurring timers).

    • #homesafe or #finish: Finishes your GetHomeSafe activity.

    • #panic or #help: Triggers a panic alert and notifies GetHomeSafe supervisors.

These commands allow you to safely manage your activity via satellite when the mobile app isn't able to sync.

 

Returning to the GetHomeSafe app after your check-in

Option 1: Via Zoleo Notification

  • Click link in Zoleo confirmation message (from noreply@gethomesafe.com) - this takes a few seconds after the message has been successfully sent
  • Automatically returns to app with updated timer

Option 2: Open GetHomeSafe App

  • Pop-up appears to select new check-in time
  • Time already pre-configured
  • Simply select "Update"
