GHS Web Portal - Flight Tracking

A guide on how to use the Flight Tracking feature on the GetHomeSafe webportal.

The flight tracking feature lets users add upcoming flights to activities. When a flight is added, real-time data is relayed to GetHomeSafe. This includes live updates and plane locations. Given the limitations of mobile data and Wi-Fi on planes, flight tracking enables supervisors to stay informed about users' activities while they're in the air.

Adding Flights

Flights can only be added via the 'New Activity' page of the web portal, before takeoff. GetHomeSafe relies on a third-party flight tracking provider for flight data. Please note, some flights may not be available. A useful resource for locating flight numbers is Flightradar 24.

To add a flight:

  • Log in to the web portal.
  • Select 'New Activity'.
  • Scroll down to 'Journey details'.
  • Click on the plane icon between the 'starting location' and 'destination' fields.
  • Choose 'Add flight'.
  • Set the departure date (ensure time zone differences are considered).
  • Search for the flight number.
  • Select the flight.
  • Click 'Add flight'.

Two waypoints will be automatically added using the departure and arrival airports. The flight can be edited or removed if needed.

Once a flight is added, the activity can be started, planned for later, or requested for approval. From this point, flight details are integrated into the activity and updated accordingly. Flight Details

When viewing an activity, a ‘Flight Details’ card is available. This is updated in real time.

Information provided includes:

  • Flight number
  • Departure and arrival airports.
  • Scheduled, estimated, and actual departure times.
  • Scheduled, estimated, and actual arrival times.
  • Estimated flight duration.
  • Plane status

Last Reported Location

When activities are started, the plane's last reported location is sent to GetHomeSafe every 5 minutes. These locations are recorded as automatic check-ins. A plane icon is visible on the dashboard and journey maps while the plane is in the air, indicating the plane's last reported location.

Timeline Events

In the timeline filters, enable ‘display flight events’. This displays all flight updates from pre-departure to landing, and locations (automatic check-ins) recorded during the flight.
